FactoidFranz Joseph Haydn returned to Austria from his second concert tour of England and wrote this tune as an Imperial Anthem (Kaiser Hymn) for Franz II, the last Kaiser of "das Heilige Römische Reich Deutscher Nationre." Haydn had been impressed by "God save the King. The tune was first played on February 12, 1797.
